Learn French with French Vocab Builder Pro

Improve your French Vocabulary

Learning a French vocabulary is simple and methodical with the French Vocab Builder Pro computer program. French Vocab Builder Pro is the total solution for those who want to learn their French vocabulary. Building up your French vocabulary progressively using the French Vocab Builder Pro will develop your confidence and skill in using the French language in speaking, listening and reading.

What you will learn

The exercises in the program are structured for progressive learning.

You will learn the le and la definite articles for all nouns.

French idioms are included, so that you can learn them, e.g.

For the more advanced students, there are features to help you to learn to conjugate all the tenses, and to learn all the irregular verb forms. Example sentences are also provided to help you understand how to use each verb.

All students learn the present tense conjugation of the 3 different types of regular verbs and they also will learn the present tense conjugation when they learn an irregular verb.

Visual & Aural Recognition

Vocab Builder Pro first introduces the word with its meaning, and with the correct pronunciation being played. Here is an example using the word bonjour.

New Word

A little later in the same session the program returns to the same word, and asks you to self-check whether you can remember its meaning. The program then records whether you were able to remember it or not (you tell it!). Words return for similar checks on later days, with the interval between checks increasing over time.

Self-Check Word

There are also multiple-choice tests to be done, with the alternative meanings based on the words you have already learnt.

Multiple-choice

Paradigms for all the conjugations for all the tenses are provided, as well as all the present tense and other irregular tenses for all irregular verbs. These are learnt in the same way as the head word: the program first introduces the conjugated form, and then later checks that you have remembered it.

Conjugation

When learning the irregular verbs, you can choose to also learn the present and past participles, since these are also often irregularly formed. (This is done by turning off the "Beginner" option, if it was set at start-up.)

Participles

Finally there is a spelling test, in which you type in the box provided the word that you hear played. This is also provided for the conjugated forms. This only is activated in the program if audio is turned on in the program.

Recall

There is also a recall test: in this test you enter the learned word that matches the provided English meaning. This is a vital step in remembering your French vocabulary, as it provides a quite different way for you to remember the word, and helps you to bring it to mind when you need it.

Recall Test

Choosing your words

You choose which words you want to learn from predefined lists supplied with the program.

Making your own list

You can also make your own list, which you can distribute to your fellow-students, or to your pupils.
